A Frugal Family Pizza Night

by Rhiana Jones

I don’t know about you, but pizza night is a once-a-week event in our house. We all love our pizza and it’s a nice decadent break from our healthy weeknight meals. Unfortunately, when you’ve hit a sparse week on the local coupons, pizza night can get costly. It’s then time to turn to “Make Your Own Pizza” night. Purchase a few pre-made pizza crusts and everyone can have their own pizza with their favorite toppings. Prep the toppings on the weekend and put in the fridge to save time during the week. You can often even get the pre-made crusts at The Dollar Tree or Big Lots.

Here’s some great ideas for some interesting homemade pizzas.

  1. Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza - This one is awesome for the kids. Make a quick pizza sauce out of ketchup, Worcestershire, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder and salt and pepper. Then top with shredded cheddar cheese instead of mozzarella and sprinkle with browned ground beef.

  2. Po’ Boy Pizza - Everyday Pizza Sauce, sliced Italian sausage, salami and thinly sliced Swiss cheese

  3. Artichoke and Olives - Everyday Pizza Sauce, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, feta cheese and mozzarella cheese

  6. Bacon and Spinach - Everyday Pizza Sauce, spinach, sliced mushrooms, diced cooked bacon, diced red onions, minced garlic and shredded mozzarella

  7. Pesto Chicken - Pesto sauce, diced cooked chicken breast, spinach, sliced mushrooms, shredded mozzarella cheese

  8. Surf and Turf - Everyday Pizza Sauce, thinly sliced cooked steaks, diced onions, cocktail shrimp, diced tomatoes and shredded mozzarella

  9. Bacon and Apples - Pesto sauce, thinly sliced apples, bacon, finely diced walnuts

  10. Vegetarian - Everyday Pizza Sauce, sliced eggplant, sliced zucchini, diced tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, diced onions and shredded mozzarella cheese
