Ever have those days when you just get in a funk? You feel
like there is so much to be done that you don’t even know where to start.
Everybody has those days. Sometimes those days turn into weeks and the next
thing you know you are in an unproductive, unmotivated rut. Feeling as though
there will never be enough time for you to do what you want and need to do
Rest assured, you will never be able to do everything, but
you are perfectly capable of getting the most important things done and the
result is an increased sense of confidence and self-fulfillment. Follow these
five tips and you will drastically improve your productivity.
- Start with the Most Important Tasks. This first step is crucial, because face it,
you are not a superhero. There are only 24 hours in each day and you have to
decide what task you will dedicate your time to. For example at work, what
activity is most important? What boosts your overall quality of work and makes
you feel accomplished for the day? At home, what needs to be done or who do you need to spend time with? Do you have a kid struggling in school? Then make helping your child with homework one of your musts.
- Make Your List. We have already established that there is only so much time in a
day. That is why the most important things need to make it to your list. Write
down the five most important things you need to do for the day. Keep your list
at a minimum. The last thing you want to do is overload yourself with busy
work. Remember, you are here to accomplish the important stuff.
- Execute Your Plan. Once you have your list complete it’s time to make your game
plan. Go after those tasks you have on that list and don’t stop until you’ve wiped
them all out. Once you finish something, cross it off that list. It’s an amazing
feeling when you know that you have accomplished everything you had set out to
do for the day.
- Know Your Limits. Nobody is perfect. We all have days where we just want to give
up. Give yourself a break every now and then, but never give up. Remember you
are only one person, you are capable of great things but you cannot do
everything.
- Rinse and Repeat. Make your list making, priority tackling, and goal accomplishing an everyday habit. After a
couple days of following the list you will get in a groove and your
productivity will spike. You will realize that you are capable of getting all
the important things in life done with time to spare.
It’s not rocket science, nor is it break through time
management skills. But by simply focusing on the most important tasks on hand,
you will be getting things done that actually benefit you. You are the one living your life. You decide what’s important and then you set out to do it. Following these five easy steps will
make your life more productive and leave you feeling like a better person.
